Visitor Visa
What is a TRV?
A Temporary Resident Visa (TRV), commonly referred to as visitor visa, is an official counterfoil document issued by a visa officer, allowing a foreign national to travel to and enter Canada.
Visitors are all those persons who are legally authorized to enter the land of Canada but are not Canadian citizens or Permanent residents. People can travel to Canada for the purposes such as:
- Visiting family
- Tourism or holidays in Canada.
- Conducting business etc
Stay Duration:
Canada issues multiple-entry visit visa, usually valid till your passport’s expiry. Visitors with a temporary visa can stay in Canada for up to six months at a time. However, the authorities at the border may allow you to for more than six months or curtail your time. The details will be stated on your passport to inform you of the date on which you must leave the country.
Not all foreign nationals need to apply for a TRV for coming to Canada as a visitor. If you are a citizen of a visa-exempt country other than the United States, you only need an eTA.
What is an eTA?
An eTA is an electronic Travel Authorization. It is linked to your passport and is valid for 5 years or until your passport expires.
Foreign nationals from all visa-exempt countries (except the U.S), require an eTA to travel to Canada by air.
- US citizens do not require TRV nor eTA to enter Canada.
- Lawful US permanent residents do need an eTA to enter Canada.
While applying for a visit visa, it is important to convince the immigration officials of a genuine need to visit, and a sincere intent to return to your country of residence. The political and socio-economic situation of your home country may also influence the outcome. Rejection rates are high for foreign nationals of certain countries
At North Edge Immigration, we make sure to submit a convincing case, backed by maximum possible supporting documents, to increase your chances of a successful decision.
